A few months back (November, to be exact) I had an unexpected allergic reaction to a new shampoo I tried. I’ve never had an allergy to anything, so the three doctors I saw (in a matter of four days) pinned it on the chance that it was probably a pregnancy-induced allergic reaction. Didn’t know that was a thing, but it happened… my entire scalp, face, neck, shoulders, and back were covered in hives. I couldn’t sleep, take a decent shower, or hold my kids. I was glued to the couch, where my husband lathered me in Benadryl anti-itch cream and covered me in layers of ice packs for four days. It was not fun. Luckily it was short-lived, but the recovery process destroyed my skin and left me dry, brittle, and itchy.
Since then, I’ve done some research and was able to find a few products that haven’t irritated my skin and have brought it back to life. I’ve been using the five products listed below for the last few months and have since become somewhat of a skincare junkie. Can’t say that I was ever the girl to religiously complete a skincare routine in the morning and before bed, but now I look forward to it!
5 SKINCARE PRODUCTS I’M LOVING
SUMMER FRIDAYS Jet Lag Mask // I stalked this online for a while before taking the plunge. So glad I did! I apply this mask before bed when my face is feeling extra dry. It’s considered a mask, but it’s not one you need to wash off. It’s thick, creamy, and absorbs quickly. It smells nice and my skin always has a nice glow to it and looks hydrated the next morning. It’s on the pricier side for a face mask but a little bit goes a long way.
HERBIVORE Facial Oil // I mentioned this in my Ten Pregnancy Favorites (Second Trimester) post — still a big fan. Most nights I’ll decide between this, the Jet Lag Mask, or Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizer with SPF. I didn’t add the Aveeno moisturizer to this post because it’s not a new product for me, but I’ve been using it for years and I love it. If you’re in the market for an everyday, inexpensive daily moisturizer, I’d highly recommend this one.
Mario Badescu Facial Spray // This spray smells like a spa, which is the main reason I like it. I know facial sprays are supposed to be hydrating but I’m not gonna sit here and say I notice a big difference when I use this. However, I’m glad I have it and you can’t beat the price.
Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Eye Patches // Chilled eye masks have quickly become one of my skincare favorites. I keep these in the fridge & reach for them on mornings when my eyes are extra puffy. Bonus step: roll over them with the ice roller I linked below. Not only does it feel great, but it makes your entire face look more awake.
Ice Roller // This is great for de-puffing. I keep it in the fridge and use it every morning while my coffee is brewing. I roll over my entire face and spend extra time on my eyes, which are always crazy puffy for a few hours after I wake up. It’s a nice start to the day and helps me feel more awake. It’s also great for headaches and forehead tension.
One of my goals as a stay-at-home mom is to add some self-care into my day without it requiring too much time, effort, or $$$. Taking the time to care for my skin meets that mark! I also love going to spas… and because that doesn’t happen a whole lot these days, this kind of stuff is just what I’m looking for.
Are there any other skin care products I should try? I’m in the market for everything… hydration, fine lines and wrinkles, de-puffing, you name it. I would love to try it all!
