EDIT // The dark wall is Sherwin Williams HUNT CLUB. The light wall is Sherwin Williams ORIGAMI WHITE. 🙂
Drake has officially transitioned to his big boy room and it went much smoother than Nate and I thought it would. The day we got home from our weekend getaway in Nashville, he went to his unfinished, construction-zone room and insisted on sleeping in his bed during nap time. We looked at each other, shrugged our shoulders, and were sure that he’d be up and knocking on his door within minutes. But the exact opposite happened. He fell asleep immediately, and since then he’s been glued to his new room.
I was so indecisive when it came to a theme. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think boy rooms are hard to style. It also took me a while because I really wanted to go into this with the mindset that this room could grow with him. I would love to not have to make any major changes in here for quite some time, but rather change out decorations based on what he’s into. If I had to sum up in a few words the look I was going for, I’d say cheerful, bold, and boy-ish.
This little book nook is the first thing you see as you enter his room. Drake wants to read five+ books a day, so we had to have a designated area for all his current picks. As far as the design went, I knew I wanted to have one accent wall with removable wallpaper. This modern jungle print is from Chasing Paper. It was really easy to put up (or at least Nate said it was, haha). We also added picture ledges to hold some of his favorite books and found this awesome lion head online. We have yet to name him, but I’m excited to put a Santa hat on him come Christmastime.
One of our best big boy room decisions has been these foam bed bumpers that were recommended by a friend. They fit nicely under his fitted sheets and stay in place. He has yet to fall out of his bed and I actually feel like they “hug” him when he sleeps.
This is one of my favorite areas in Drake’s bedroom. I love having these shelves to change up and personalize. This cinema light caught my eye because it comes with emoji inserts – fun! These banana bookends and this LED rocker light are recent Target finds. I was so excited to find the bookends because Drake eats bananas like it’s his job – and the LED light was a must-have because we always make the rock on sign and jam out to Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” when we watch Shrek.
I wanted a little area for Drake to store his toys other than the toy box. I love the leather details of these fabric storage totes and was sold when I noticed the little loop on the back – perfect to hang on these animal head hooks!
LONG LIVE BOYHOOD. I ordered this pennant flag the first time I saw it. How cute for a boy’s room? We brought his teepee up from the playroom, added an IKEA rug underneath it, and threw some of his stuffed animals in there. He loves this space and crawls in here to destroy it (I mean play) all the time.
I’m so happy that Drake isn’t afraid of being in a new room and enjoys hanging out in here even when it’s not time to sleep. I was worried that it’d be a hard transition, but then again, I thought getting rid of his binky or bottle would be rough, too. I’ll take it while it lasts though, because potty training is in our near future and I have no idea what to expect with that. Any and all tips would be appreciated, haha!
